Matera

Weave, hidden paths, narrow lanes semi-abandoned by the melancholic appearance: scents, life, underground labyrinths alternating with cavernous meanders; a wonderful tangle of houses of all ages, clinging along the verticality of the ravine, a deep wild, natural, surprising valley. There are also crypts, hermitages, basilicas and cenobi, places of worship dug out of the tuff, scattered throughout the urban fabric of the Sassi, along the precipices or on the Murgia plateau, exceptional works of art and examples of the negative architecture to which the inhabitants of the area were accustomed.

This isMatera, a rare pearl, a city within a city, a transversal landscape, World Heritage Site since 1993, European Capital of Culture for 2019.
